The COACH External Sport Credentials Program (ESCP) falls under the Sport and Recreation Branch of the Government of BC Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport.

Student coaches seeking to earn credit under the Coach 11 or Coach 12 category must ensure they have completed all the required components and send their proof of completion (copy of NCCP certifications, practical coach experience verification letter and Make-Ethical Decisions ?evaluated?) to the Sport and Recreation Branch. The Sport and Recreation Branch representative will review the submitted documentation and issue a verification letter directly to the student if the student has fulfilled all the requirements.

  • Make Ethical Decisions ?evaluated? ? Once a student coach receives an NCCP # from the Coaches Association of Canada (CAC), they can request a usename and password from the CAC that will allow them to then complete the "Evaluation" portion of Make Ethical Decisions module. This "Evaluation" is accessed through the CAC website: www.coach.ca. Your documentation for completion of this module will appear on your coaches transcript which you can access and print from the CAC website (www.coach.ca).
  • Practical Experience ? The student coach should keep a log of their practical coaching hours which includes the following information: practical coaching hours, team or athlete?s coached and level of participation. Practical coaching experience needs to be monitored and reviewed by an Introduction to Competition ?certified? coach or NCCP Level 2 ?certified? coach in the sport you are being evaluated in. The evaluating coach is to provide the student coach with a verification letter which must include; name of the student, number of practical coaching hours, team or athletes coached, level of participation, name of authorizing coach including NCCP CC number (if applicable), and date of completion. The practical coaching experience must be in the same sport as the trained or certified accreditation.

Coach 11 Standards

The student coach must fulfill the following requirements to receive credits for coach 11.

  • NCCP Community Sport Initiation;
  • NCCP Making Ethical Decisions ?evaluated?; and
  • 30 hours of coaching experience monitored and reviewed by an Introduction to Competition ?certified? coach or NCCP Level 2 ?certified? coach in the sport you are being evaluated in.

Coach 12 Standards

For Coach 12, the provincial sport organization must submit to the Sport and Recreation Branch the Association?s NCCP coach education program for review and approval. The requirements include all of the following and must total a minimum of 100 hours of instruction, evaluation and practical coaching experience:

  • Provide instruction in the NCCP multi-sport modules and the sport technical component of the sport
  • Evaluate the student coaches in their knowledge of developing practice sessions and demonstration of sport specific instruction; and
  • Practical coaching experience. The student must submit a verification letter of practical coaching experience. An Introduction to Competition ?trained? coach or NCCP Level 2 ?certified? coach from the same sport must provide the verification letter of practical coaching hours.

Student coaches seeking to earn credit under the Coach 12 category must have participated in a pre-approved provincial sport organization coach education program. Student coaches should contact their provincial sport organization to enquire if they have a pre-approved program that has met the Coach 12 requirements.

Documentation: The provincial sport organizations will monitor, evaluate and verify the student coach has completed all the Coach 12 components and submit their proof of completion to the Sport and Recreation Branch who will then issue a verification letter directly to the student coach.
